KARACHI – The wave of street crimes in the metropolis continues unabated as the new year begins. An 18-year-old youth was shot dead by armed robbers in New Karachi on Monday, marking the second such fatality in just the first few days of 2026.
The Incident According to police officials, the incident took place near the Rizwan Mosque in New Karachi, Sector 5-L. The victim, identified as Saad Javed, was intercepted by armed muggers. When the young man reportedly resisted the robbery attempt, the outlaws opened fire, leaving him critically injured.
Medical Response Edhi ambulance volunteers rushed the victim to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Police have secured the area and are collecting forensic evidence to track down the fleeing suspects.
A Rising Toll This tragedy marks the second death caused by dacoits in 2026. Only two days prior, a 11th-grade student named Komal lost her life in Landhi after being caught in the crossfire between police and robbers.
2025 Retrospective The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in Karachi. According to data from the previous year, 86 citizens were killed by robbers during resistance in 2025, raising serious concerns among residents regarding the protection of life and property in the city.
