KARACHI: In a surprising crackdown against professional panhandling, the Gulshan-e-Iqbal police arrested a beggar on Rashid Minhas Road who was found in possession of over Rs. 100,000 in cash.
The Arrest
Acting on a tip-off, police officials detained the suspect, identified as Akbar, during a targeted operation. Upon searching the suspect, police recovered several shopping bags stuffed with currency notes of various denominations, including Rs. 10, Rs. 100, Rs. 500, and Rs. 1,000.

Residential Background: The suspect is a resident of the Landhi area but traveled to Gulshan-e-Iqbal specifically for begging. Earnings: According to police sources, the seized amount (exceeding one lakh rupees) was reportedly collected during the month of Ramadan. Expenditure: Initial investigations suggest the suspect had already spent several thousand rupees from his earnings before being apprehended.
The police have initiated further legal proceedings against the suspect as part of the ongoing campaign to curb professional beggary in the city.
