KARACHI – A private security guard’s quick thinking and bravery foiled a major robbery attempt in the Khayaban-e-Muhafiz area of Defense Housing Authority (DHA) on February 24, saving a citizen from losing Rs. 500,000.
The Incident
According to details, a citizen had just withdrawn Rs. 500,000 from a private bank and was heading home when four armed suspects on two motorcycles began tailing him. Sensing the danger, the citizen spotted an open gate of a nearby bungalow and rushed inside to seek refuge.
CCTV Footage Breakdown
The CCTV footage of the incident, which has since gone viral, shows a dramatic sequence of events. The suspects, dressed in western attire, attempted to grab the citizen while he was on his moving motorcycle. As the citizen dashed into a residence, the armed robbers followed him inside, intent on completing the heist. However, the security guard stationed at the bungalow immediately intervened, firing aerial shots to deter the attackers. As the suspects scrambled to escape, the guard opened fire on them again, forcing them to flee the scene empty-handed.
Police Statement
SHO Darakhshan, Riaz, confirmed that the incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Darakhshan Police Station.
“We have collected various CCTV clips of the incident. The footage clearly shows four suspects on two motorcycles attempting to mug the citizen. The timely intervention of the security guard prevented the loss of property and life,” the SHO stated.
Police are currently using the footage to identify the suspects and have launched an investigation to track down the gang involved in the broad daylight attempt.
