KARACHI – In one of the most significant anti-corruption operations in recent years, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has successfully recovered 350 acres of prime government land in the city’s upscale Clifton area, valued at approximately Rs 423.5 billion.
The Operation The recovery took place in Clifton Block 1 and Block 2. According to a NAB spokesperson, the land had been illegally allotted through administrative corruption and procedural violations. This recovery is being hailed as one of the largest land reclamations in the bureau’s recent history.
Investigation Insights The breakthrough follows a rigorous inquiry initiated by NAB against senior officials from the Sindh Government’s Land Utilization Department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and Karachi Development Authority (KDA). The investigation revealed that the 350-acre tract was allotted to private entities at throwaway prices, bypassing all legal protocols and causing a potential monumental loss to the national exchequer.
Restoration of State Property Following NAB’s decisive intervention, all illegal allotments were formally cancelled and the land has been officially handed back to the Government of Sindh. The Land Utilization Department has confirmed the repossession of the property.
Collaborative Effort The operation was a result of close coordination between NAB Karachi and the Sindh Board of Revenue. This timely action prevented the further sale or transfer of the property, effectively safeguarding public assets. The bureau stated in its official release that it remains committed to its policy of “Accountability for All” and will continue to take indiscriminate action against those involved in the misuse of public resources.
