KARACHI: In a significant development for the city’s cultural and educational landscape, the Government of Sindh has officially granted museum status to the TDF MagnifiScience Centre and TDF Ghar. The announcement was made by The Dawood Foundation (TDF) on Wednesday via their official social media platforms.
A Recognition of Excellence
The Foundation stated that this formal recognition celebrates the contribution of these spaces in preserving heritage, inspiring curiosity, and making both science and culture accessible to the general public.
“This honor reinforces our commitment to advancing public learning through the fusion of culture, science, and heritage,” the statement read, while also expressing gratitude to the provincial authorities.
TDF Ghar: A Portal to Old Karachi
Located in a restored 1930s bungalow on M.A. Jinnah Road, TDF Ghar is celebrated as the city’s first “living museum.” It has become a vital community hub where:
- Heritage is Preserved: Visitors can experience the authentic spirit of old Karachi through vintage architecture and furniture.
- Community Engagement: The space hosts study sessions, diverse exhibitions, and social events.
- Iconic Views: Its rooftop offers one of the most famous views of the Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum.
MagnifiScience Centre: Pioneering Modern Learning
While TDF Ghar looks to the past, the TDF MagnifiScience Centre focuses on the future. As Pakistan’s first contemporary and interactive science center, it has transformed from a mere building into a premier destination for:
- Hands-on Education: Providing interactive exhibits for people of all ages to develop scientific thinking.
- School Excursions: Becoming the top choice for field trips, fostering engagement through “learning by doing.”
- Public Interest: Bridging the gap between complex science and the common citizen through accessible experiences.
This official status as museums ensures that these institutions will continue to serve as pillars of informal education and cultural preservation in Karachi for years to come.
